David W. Perkins

Bio

I retired as an Episcopal priest in October of 2016 to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.  Since then, I have spent my time serving professionally as supply and interim clergy, as well as coach and consultant.

Personally, I enjoy reveling in the natural beauties of the Blue Ridge as a hiker and chasing trout with a fly rod.  My two children, Ben and Katie are both married, and they and their spouses, Jenny and John, are musicians and teachers.  They have three growing boys (Aedan, Jonas, and Will), and our family is a source of endless joy.

Education

The primary focus of my academic studies is biblical studies - especially New Testament and Greek.  I also have done extensive postdoctoral research in comparative literature and its relationship to The Bible and theology.  As an Episcopal priest, I did graduate research on Anglicanism, and am ABD for an STM in Anglican Theology.  Currently, my primary research interest is the theology of evangelism. I am also fully trained as an ICF Coach, and working toward certification.

Experience

I have a half century of experience in local parish ministry and in classroom teaching at the college and seminary level, and am keenly interested in supporting my fellow clergy and educators. I've also had training in hosting community conversation in an open-source approach, The Art of Hosting. Hosting community conversations always proves an exciting and life-giving experience.
